Why Choose Securepets?

The patented FURminator® deShedding Tools quickly and easily remove (it doesn't cut) the the loose, dead, undercoat hair that is the souce of shedding - a pet owner's major complaint - and the allergies and cleanliness problems that come with it. The tools' unique stainless steel edge grabs loose undercoat hair and removes it without damaging the topcoat.

How often should the treatment be performed?
Undercoat grows back after about 4-6 weeks. You will see the best results applying the treatment on a monthly basis to reduce shedding.

Are there breeds that are not good candidates for the FURminator?
The tool will work on all shedding dogs and even on some traditionally "hair-cut-only" dogs, like Terriers and Spaniels to coarsen the coat and blend clipper tracks. A few breeds that are typically not good candidates for the FURminator Shed-less treatment are Poodles, Shitzus, Maltese, Bichons, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Irish Water Spaniels.

Does the FURminator shed-less treatment work on terriers?
Yes, and in addition to removing the undercoat and loose hair, the treatment also offers some additional benefits for terriers. Terriers have a naturally coarse coat, and many of the show dogs are hand "striped" to keep this texture in their topcoats. But using a clipper "softens" the coat, which is not desirable. Using the FURminator deShedding tool on a regular basis, however, will help retain that coarse terrier coat on dogs that have had their hair trimmed with clippers. Schnauzers can also develop a darker color "stripe" down their backs from clippers. The deShedding tool will help eliminate this "stripe" and help return the coat to its original color.

Can this treatment help prevent hairballs in my cat?
Yes. In fact in the April 2005 issue of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine's newsletter for cat owners, the FURminator deShedding tool was ranked among the best for getting rid of excess hair that causes hairballs.
